Summary

The Supervisor, Maintenance of Way, will supervise and evaluate the work activities of various classifications, including forepersons, maintenance crew members, equipment operators, track repairpersons, and track inspection personnel, ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.

Examples of duties

• Responsible for the duties of the Superintendent as needed.
• Evaluate track and work conditions and prescribe and execute any remedial actions required to ensure the safety of both customers and employees.
• Protect MBTA / MOW property and assets.
• Use T Track standard manual and computerized systems to prepare short and long-range work programs for the rail lines such as inspections, track rehabilitation, maintenance, and cleanup programs.
• Ensuring budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Prioritize and organize work schedules for day and night crews.
• Perform and document daily inspections of work performed, prepare tack inspection schedules on a yearly basis to determine and submit manpower, materials, and equipment needs for track work programs.
• Diagnose track conditions and initiate proper remedial action.
• Prepare, monitor, and analyze various personnel and attendance-related trends and reports.
• Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel.
• Responsible for the storage and delivery of all stock and materials as needed.
• Oversee all rail fabrication and pre-plate ties for the MOW Department.
• Assist with day-to-day service contracts as needed.
• Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker, in a courteous and professional manner.
• Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
• Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable), and policies of the Authority, including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment, and Anti- Retaliation policies.
• Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
• This position will work in an office environment and in the field to inspect/observe projects or other infrastructure conditions, which require visits to stations, the Right of Way, and other work sites.
• Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Supervision

• Supervise classifications, including Foreperson(s), System Repairers, and Trackperson(s).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. 
• Five (5) years of experience in rail/track repair, maintenance, design, and construction.
• One (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Effective organizational and analytical skills.
• Have the ability to use Word, Excel, database, PeopleSoft, or Mainframe applications.
• Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
• Have the ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
• Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
• A valid driver’s license.
