US-Citizen Robotics Founding Hardware Mechanical Engineer

Bihumanoid is developing humanoid and quadruped robotic systems for various applications, and they are seeking a Founding Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical development of these platforms. The role involves transforming product concepts into engineered systems and establishing design standards and processes.

Responsibilities:

• Own the mechanical development of both robotic platforms from architecture through prototype
• Define robot dimensions, degrees of freedom, joint layouts, structural systems, and component placement
• Design the head, torso, pelvis, arms, hands, legs, feet, chassis, limbs, joints, and exterior interfaces
• Create complete 3D CAD parts, subassemblies, and full robot assemblies
• Engineer actuator mounts, transmissions, gear systems, bearings, shafts, linkages, and mechanical hard stops
• Package motors, batteries, computers, cameras, sensors, electronics, cooling systems, and wiring
• Calculate joint torque, structural loads, center of mass, stability, impact forces, fatigue life, and safety factors
• Perform finite element, thermal, motion, and tolerance-stack analysis
• Select materials, actuators, bearings, fasteners, gearboxes, and manufacturing processes
• Produce manufacturing drawings, GD&T, bills of materials, assembly instructions, and supplier packages
• Design for strength, mobility, weight reduction, durability, serviceability, safety, and cost
• Build and assemble prototypes with internal engineers and external manufacturing partners
• Develop mechanical test plans and resolve failures through physical testing
• Coordinate with industrial design, electrical, controls, software, embedded, and manufacturing engineers
• Establish Bihumanoid’s CAD organization, revision-control, documentation, and mechanical design standards
• Help recruit and guide future mechanical engineers as the company grows

Requirements:

• Degree or equivalent professional experience in mechanical engineering, robotics engineering, or a related field
• Strong mechanical-design and physical-product-development portfolio
• Advanced experience with SolidWorks, Onshape, Creo, CATIA, Fusion 360, or comparable CAD software
• Strong understanding of mechanics, kinematics, materials, load paths, tolerances, and machine design
• Experience producing professional engineering drawings using GD&T
• Experience designing complex assemblies involving motors, bearings, shafts, transmissions, and sensors
• Knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal, composites, injection molding, and additive manufacturing
• Experience building, assembling, testing, and improving physical prototypes
• Ability to independently take a complex mechanical system from concept through a working prototype
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Experience designing humanoid, quadruped, industrial, or mobile robots
• Knowledge of robotic actuators, harmonic drives, cycloidal drives, planetary gearboxes, and belt or cable transmissions
• Experience with finite element analysis, motion simulation, and tolerance-stack analysis
• Understanding of robot balance, locomotion, joint loading, and fall protection
• Experience packaging batteries, electronics, sensors, wiring, and thermal systems
• Experience designing lightweight structures for high dynamic loads
• Familiarity with robot safety, design for manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and field repair
• Experience working with prototype shops, suppliers, and contract manufacturers
• Previous technical leadership or founding-engineer experience
