Founding AI Engineer – Drug Discovery & Healthcare AI ( Equity)

Bactrix is an early-stage AI startup building next-generation technology for healthcare and drug discovery. They are looking for an exceptional Founding AI Research Engineer who will apply cutting-edge artificial intelligence to solve scientific challenges and work closely with the scientific team to build intelligent systems for drug discovery.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop state-of-the-art AI systems for healthcare and drug discovery
• Build autonomous AI agents capable of scientific reasoning and research automation
• Develop advanced LLM and RAG applications for scientific knowledge discovery
• Design AI pipelines to identify novel drug combinations, therapeutic opportunities, and research hypotheses
• Collaborate with scientists to translate complex biological and pharmaceutical knowledge into AI-powered solutions
• Build scalable Python applications, APIs, and cloud-based AI infrastructure
• Evaluate and integrate the latest advances in generative AI, agentic AI, and computational biology
• Help define the long-term AI strategy and technical direction of Bactrix as a founding team member

Requirements:

• Strong software engineering skills with Python
• Proven experience building AI/ML, Generative AI, or LLM-based applications
• Experience with frameworks such as LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, MCP, OpenAI SDK, or similar
• Strong understanding of biology, microbiology, pharmacology, chemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology, or drug discovery
• Ability to read and understand scientific literature and apply it to AI product development
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with significant ownership and responsibility
• Ability to commit approximately 20 hours per week
