Staff Software Engineer

Asurion helps people protect, connect, and enjoy the technology they love. The Staff Software Engineer will provide technical leadership for complex, scalable systems, driving architecture, code quality, and reliability while mentoring engineers and aligning solutions with business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, cloud-native applications across frontend and backend technologies
• Own the technical implementation of complex features from design through production deployment
• Partner with Product, Design, and fellow engineers to translate business needs into intuitive, reliable software solutions
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and scalable backend services
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code with a focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Champion engineering best practices including automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and operational excellence
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help evolve the technical direction of the team's applications and services
• Troubleshoot production issues, improve application observability, and proactively address technical debt
• Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving
• Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering practices to continuously improve developer productivity and product quality
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency, code quality, and software delivery

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and supporting production software applications
• Strong experience developing full-stack applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, and modern frontend frameworks such as React
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and distributed systems
• Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS using serverless and container-based architectures
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and object-oriented and/or functional programming principles
• Experience with automated testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and applying modern DevOps practices
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead the technical implementation of complex initiatives and deliver high-quality software with minimal oversight
• Experience mentoring engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and technical guidance
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across engineering and cross-functional teams
• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration technologies
• Experience building highly available, large-scale distributed systems
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and production operations
• Experience supporting internal enterprise applications and business-critical platforms
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies) to improve software delivery and engineering productivity
