General Motors is expanding its GM Energy division, which focuses on delivering integrated energy solutions. The Senior Product Manager for Utility and Energy Markets will define and execute software solutions for GM Energy's grid service capabilities, working cross-functionally to ensure product success.
Responsibilities:
- Define and articulate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for software products within the utility and energy markets, aligning with GM Energy's overall objectives
- Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify customer needs, market trends, and emerging technologies
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and business teams using Agile and Waterfall methodologies to translate product requirements into detailed specifications and user stories
- Lead the entire product lifecycle from concept to launch and post-launch optimization, ensuring successful product delivery and adoption
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of commercial aspects of the energy industry, including regulatory frameworks, utility operations, and energy market dynamics
- Utilize Design Thinking principles to empathize with users, define problems, ideate solutions, prototype, and test new product features
- Facilitate and lead Group Problem Solving sessions to address complex technical and business challenges
- Work closely with marketing and sales teams to develop compelling product messaging and go-to-market strategies
- Monitor product performance, analyze key metrics, and iterate on products based on data-driven insights
- Demonstrate strong Learning Agility to quickly adapt to new technologies, market shifts, and evolving business needs
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in software product management
- Experience owning software products from strategy and requirements through launch and iteration
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, design, and business stakeholders
- Proficiency with Agile product development
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Customer-first mindset and strong product judgment
- Experience in utility, energy, EV charging, DER, or adjacent industrial technology sectors
- Familiarity with IEEE 2030.5, OpenADR, or similar utility/DER integration standards
- Familiarity with grid services such as demand response, peak shaving, non-wires alternatives, or ancillary services
- Understanding of EV charging and energy software ecosystems
- Experience with market research, design thinking, and go-to-market collaboration
- Experience facilitating structured problem-solving across technical and business teams
