Celestica, Inc. is a technology leader focused on driving customer success and advancements in the market. They are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer & Team Lead to define the physical architecture of their heavy-duty product lineup and guide its mechanical execution from concept to field commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, task, and manage the mechanical engineering design team. Establish modeling standards, define drafting templates, and execute rigorous design reviews
- Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) best practices across the engineering lifecycle, collaborating closely with fabrication shops and assembly line leads
- Partner directly with Electrical, Systems, and Certification engineering teams to ensure physical enclosure layouts support electrical clearances, cable routing, and regulatory compliance
- Architect robust, low-deflection structural steel base frames (skids) capable of supporting ultra-heavy power equipment (transformers, switchgear, liquid-cooled battery racks)
- Design integrated lifting lugs, spreader-bar interfaces, and tie-down schemes. Analyze dynamic over-the-road transit forces to ensure safe logistics
- Perform and supervise comprehensive linear and non-linear structural FEA on structural frames, lifting setups, and cabinet paneling to validate stress, deflection, and fatigue limits
- Design and detail E-houses, walk-in modular enclosures, and outdoor containment cabinets. Establish robust ingress protection strategies (e.g., NEMA 3R, IP55, IP66)
- Collaborate with HVAC and thermal engineers to integrate complex air-conditioning, liquid cooling, and active ventilation systems. Ensure optimized airflow pathways, ducting configurations, and condensation mitigation
- Ensure all structural weldments, panel interfaces, and equipment anchorages comply with site-specific seismic and wind-load requirements under the International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE 7
- Define physical testing procedures for prototype validation, including rain-ingress testing, structural deflection tests under maximum load, and seismic vibration simulation
Requirements:
- 7+ Years of hands-on mechanical design experience in the power distribution, modular E-house, industrial HVAC packaging, or custom containerized container industry
- 2+ Years of experience in a lead role coordinating, reviewing, and driving the deliverables of CAD designers, draftspersons, or junior engineers
- Proven track record of taking complex structural steel and sheet metal assemblies from initial napkin sketches all the way to high-volume manufacturing or heavy field deployment
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline
- Strong expertise in AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards, AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code - Steel), and sheet metal fabrication techniques
- Expert command of structural physics, beam theory, shear-moment diagrams, and thermal expansion dynamics
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or PTC Creo
- Hands-on experience with ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or Autodesk Nastran
- Strong familiarity with product lifecycle management tools to manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) and drawing releases
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or an advanced degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering
