Ovael is developing a VR platform that connects people to robotic systems, and they are seeking a VR Software Engineer to develop a virtual reality teleoperation application from the ground up. The role involves designing and building the application, creating an immersive interface, and connecting the application with robot APIs and simulation environments.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build the VR teleoperation application
- Create an immersive first-person robot-control interface
- Stream live robot camera and sensor data into the VR headset
- Translate headset, controller, hand, and body movements into robot commands
- Build robot-status, battery, connectivity, and system-health displays
- Implement latency monitoring, emergency-stop controls, and safety limits
- Connect the application with robot APIs, ROS 2, and simulation environments
- Support session authentication, data recording, playback, and diagnostics
- Test the application with simulated and physical robotic platforms
- Document the system architecture, source code, and integration process
Requirements:
- Strong experience developing VR or XR applications
- Experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, or a comparable real-time engine
- Proficiency in C#, C++, or both
- Understanding of OpenXR and modern VR hardware
- Experience with real-time networking, video streaming, or WebRTC
- Ability to build a functional application from an early-stage concept
- Strong understanding of software architecture, testing, and version control
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Experience with ROS or ROS 2
- Experience integrating software with robots, drones, or embedded systems
- Knowledge of teleoperation, digital twins, or robotics simulation
- Experience with hand tracking, VR gloves, or full-body motion tracking
- Understanding of low-latency control systems and network safety
- Experience with Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, HTC Vive, or similar devices
