CXC is a major public sector organization in Los Angeles, CA, seeking an experienced Data Engineer. The role involves playing a key part in large-scale data conversion, migration, and modernization initiatives while working with various legacy and enterprise data systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform data extraction, profiling, cleansing, transformation, validation, and loading activities from legacy systems into target platforms
- Analyze and map source-to-target data relationships while ensuring data integrity and reconciliation
- Support field mapping, crosswalk analysis, and data conversion efforts across multiple business units and vendors
- Define and document data requirements, extraction logic, validation rules, and conversion methodologies
- Coordinate with stakeholders across organizational units to support data conversion planning and execution
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality issues, inconsistencies, and validation errors
- Work with structured and unstructured datasets, including flat files, mainframe-extracted data, and relational databases
- Support ETL processes, reconciliation activities, encrypted file validation, and SFTP file structures
- Assist with cutover planning, data retention requirements, and conversion sequencing activities
- Facilitate knowledge transfer, training, and documentation to ensure business users can effectively utilize converted data
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience supporting data conversion, migration, or transformation projects
- 3+ years of experience performing field mapping, crosswalk analysis, data validation, and reconciliation activities
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting data quality issues, including variable-length errors and blob-size anomalies
- 3+ years of experience coordinating with multiple organizations, vendors, and stakeholders during data conversion initiatives
- Hands-on experience working with encrypted test files, regulated data, and data quality controls
- Strong experience with legacy and relational data technologies including mainframe environments, DB2, FOCUS, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience with ETL processes, source-to-target mappings, SFTP structures, and data governance practices
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a closely related field
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
- Strong understanding of legacy systems, data dictionaries, and enterprise data migration methodologies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality and integrity
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors
- Knowledge of government data retention requirements and compliance standards
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience supporting large-scale public sector or enterprise-wide data initiatives is highly preferred
