EPAM Systems is seeking a Developer Tooling Engineer to join their team and contribute to building a next-generation API Review Agent platform and developer tooling ecosystem. The role focuses on developing CLI tools and enhancing the developer experience through automation and observability features.
Responsibilities:
- Develop production-grade CLI tools using TypeScript
- Contribute to command-line experiences for API governance, review automation, developer workflows, and platform operations
- Help build extensible plugin architectures and SDKs for internal and external consumers
- Support the implementation of software distribution strategies across macOS and Windows
- Contribute to release pipelines, package managers, installers, auto-update mechanisms, and version management solutions
- Implement telemetry features that measure adoption, usage patterns, performance, reliability, and feature engagement, following privacy, compliance, and enterprise governance requirements
- Develop authentication, configuration, and credential-management capabilities for developer tools
- Build integrations with GitHub, GitLab, CI/CD systems, IDEs, and developer portals
- Create clear documentation, tutorials, examples, and developer onboarding materials
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to architecture discussions
- Support reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability across the tooling ecosystem
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in developer tooling, platform engineering, or a related field
- Solid proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience contributing to or maintaining CLI applications
- Working knowledge of software packaging and distribution technologies (Homebrew, npm, standalone binaries, installers, containers, etc.)
- Practical experience with telemetry, analytics, or usage instrumentation within developer tools
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, metrics collection, logging, and observability best practices
- Experience with CI/CD automation and artifact management
- Understanding of API design, OpenAPI specifications, and developer experience principles
- Exposure to building SDKs, plugins, extensions, or developer productivity tools
- Familiarity with authentication mechanisms such as OAuth, API keys, and SSO integrations
- Experience working with cloud-native tools, including GitHub Actions
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and take ownership of tasks
- Strong English communication skills (B1+ level)
- Exposure to developer platform engineering or open-source tooling ecosystems
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tooling and agent-based workflows
- Awareness of software supply chain and artifact distribution concepts
- Experience with cross-platform desktop tooling
- Familiarity with telemetry and analytics platforms, API governance, or developer portals
