Nava is a consultancy and public benefit corporation working to make government services simple and effective. The Senior Software Engineer (Data) role will be responsible for developing end to end systems for one of Nava's major government partners, focusing on designing, implementing, and delivering scalable systems that millions of Americans depend on.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 2-3 engineers
- Working with fellow Nava engineers to design, review, and build well-crafted software
- Working in an agile manner to efficiently ship new features that meet user needs
- Design and develop scalable data ingestion and processing pipelines
- Implement large-scale data ecosystems within cloud-based platforms that include data management and data governance of structured and unstructured data
- Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Work with cross-functional project teams to gather business requirements and translate to detailed technical specifications
- Work with Government partners to assist and develop data engineering applications and pipelines that will enable data services and processing capabilities
- Participate in software design and code reviews
- Maintain security and privacy standards in all aspects of the data pipeline
- Taking part in hiring activities (e.g., submitting referrals, conducting interviews, and attending interview debriefs), as needed
Requirements:
- At least 7 years of experience working in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale on Cloud platforms
- At least 3 years of experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- At least 3 years of experience building data services on AWS
- Experience building large scale data services
- Experience with big data technologies such Apache Spark, AWS Glue, AWS Athena, Databricks, AWS Redshift, AWS S3 and AWS RDS
- Proficient writing applications and APIs in Python or Ruby
- Tenacity to dive into problems and iterate in working code
- Equal parts systems thinker and advocate for users
- Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to think strategically around trade-offs and short term vs. long term benefits
- An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative and positive mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and otherwise
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to meet any other requirements for government contracts for which candidates are hired
- Work authorization that doesn't require visa sponsorship, now or in the future
- May be subject to a government background check or security clearance, depending on the contract
- Client management experience
- Experience with Databricks and/or Power BI
