Senior Software Engineer (.NET / Azure) - Contract (1099)

Very is a fully distributed technology firm focused on creating efficient, scalable solutions for various industries. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain secure, scalable applications, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Implement features across frontend, backend, and cloud components
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
• Write clean, scalable, and secure code following Very’s engineering standards
• Create and maintain automated tests across all layers of the stack
• Support deployments, CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and alerting
• Participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback that improves overall quality
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and assist in diagnosing and resolving production issues
• Support documentation and knowledge sharing within teams

Requirements:

• BS or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• 4+ years building backend systems with C# and .NET
• Full software development lifecycle experience, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations
• Experience building complex, event-driven, microservice-based systems
• Strong understanding of production-grade system reliability, observability, and security
• Deep expertise in C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core
• Experience building RESTful APIs, background workers, and distributed services
• Strong experience with Azure-native services including: Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Service Bus, Azure IoT Hub
• Skilled in relational and non-relational data modeling and SQL development
• Experience implementing event-driven and asynchronous architectures
• Familiarity with SignalR or real-time communication systems
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD B2C authentication flows
• Strong understanding of cloud observability, monitoring, and operational diagnostics
• Ability to support CI/CD automation and cloud infrastructure workflows
• Experience debugging distributed production systems at scale
• Must be US-based
• Experience working with IoT, telemetry, or edge-connected systems is a strong plus
• Client-facing or consulting experience preferred but not required
