Sentz Global is building the future of digital payments with a cryptocurrency platform designed for everyday use. They are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and maintain scalable backend services while ensuring data integrity and confidentiality in a privacy-preserving environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services in Rust and Kotlin that support a privacy-preserving cryptocurrency platform serving 1M+ users
- Architect and operate distributed systems that integrate with Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), including Intel SGX enclaves, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality at scale
- Leverage AI-assisted tooling to accelerate development workflows, including generating and maintaining test suites, unit test frameworks, proof-of-concept frontends, and external system testing harnesses
- Use AI-driven approaches to support debugging, root cause analysis, and performance optimization across backend services
- Build and maintain robust observability infrastructure using Grafana, Prometheus, and Logit to ensure system health, performance visibility, and rapid incident response
- Develop and maintain Elasticsearch integrations for log aggregation, search, and analytics across distributed services
- Collaborate asynchronously with a remote-first team, contributing to technical design documents, code reviews, and architectural discussions with clarity and thoroughness
- Develop and optimize data pipelines and tooling for oblivious and privacy-preserving data processing
- Contribute to the team's infrastructure and deployment pipelines, including cloud orchestration with Kubernetes and related technologies
- Produce well-documented, maintainable code and communicate effectively on complex technical subjects across the organization
Requirements:
- 5+ years of industry experience in backend software and systems engineering
- Deep proficiency in Rust, Kotlin, C++ or other systems language as a primary backend development language, with the willingness and ability to become productive in others
- Demonstrated experience designing and deploying large-scale, high-availability distributed systems (for example, supporting millions of users or high transaction throughput)
- Strong understanding of secure computing concepts and Trusted Execution Environments (TEE); hands-on experience with Intel SGX enclaves or equivalent secure hardware technologies is highly preferred but not strictly required
- Interest in and comfort with leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-based assistants) for building test suites, debugging, and rapid prototyping, or a willingness to adopt these tools as part of the workflow
- Strong observability mindset with hands-on experience using Grafana, Prometheus, and Logit for monitoring, alerting, and system health management
- Experience navigating and integrating Elasticsearch for log management, search, and analytics in production environments
- Ability to work fully remotely with a high degree of self-motivation, ownership, and accountability
- Strong asynchronous communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical documentation, design proposals, and participate effectively in distributed team collaboration
- Experience with systems programming, network protocols, and cross-language FFI
- Familiarity with Linux environments and cloud computing platforms
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience gained through industry work and/or significant open-source contributions
- Experience authoring or porting cryptographically-sensitive code
- Familiarity with foundations of cryptography and privacy-preserving system design
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
- Experience building low-latency, high-throughput backend systems
