Senior Manager - Software Engineering and AI

Lumeris is a company dedicated to transforming the healthcare industry through innovative technology. They are seeking a Senior Manager to lead a software and AI engineering team responsible for developing AI capabilities for their primary care platform, Tom.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of software engineers, principal engineers, and prompt engineers building the conversational AI systems behind Tom
• Own day-to-day technical decisions for the team without depending on architects for routine calls; partner with architecture on larger solution design
• Conduct code reviews and set the standard for engineering and architectural best practices across the team
• Coach team members on execution standards, technical growth, and career development
• Write, test, and iterate on production-grade prompts powering Tom's conversational AI agents
• Stay directly engaged in the technical work rather than directing exclusively from a distance
• Build process and structure around the prompt development lifecycle, including requirements traceability and unit testing discipline
• Partner closely with Product Management to translate ambiguous, fast-moving requirements into organized, testable delivery
• Ensure the team stays focused on the right priorities as they evolve
• Represent the team in informal and occasional formal settings with company leadership
• Manage, coach, and develop a growing team, with technical leadership extending to broader areas of engineering
• Support performance management, career growth, and day-to-day guidance for team members
• Develops and administers schedules and performance requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• 8+ years of overall software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading a technical team
• Must-have hands-on experience building and deploying production-grade AI systems, including direct, personal experience writing and iterating on prompts running in live production environments, not solely internal or experimental use
• Demonstrated comfort operating in ambiguous, 0-to-1 environments, building new systems rather than primarily maintaining established ones
• Advanced knowledge of professional software engineering practices across the full development lifecycle, including coding standards, code review, source control, testing, and Agile delivery
• Strong Object-Oriented Programming fundamentals, with experience in modern web/service architectures (REST APIs, MVC frameworks) and both relational and NoSQL data stores
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders and assert a point of view when needed
• Conversational AI experience strongly preferred, including AI agents, assistants, or chatbot systems that interact directly with end users
• Healthcare industry experience or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience strongly preferred
