Manager, Student Accounts – Private Debt & Collections
Position Summary
The Manager, Student Accounts – Private Debt & Collections is responsible for overseeing institutional student loan portfolios and delinquent student account balances across multiple campuses. This role leads collection strategies, ensures regulatory compliance, manages third-party collection agencies, and drives initiatives to improve recovery rates while maintaining a student-centered approach.
Key Responsibilities
Collections & Portfolio Management
- Manage institutional loan portfolios and delinquent student accounts.
- Develop and implement collection and recovery strategies.
- Monitor portfolio performance and key metrics, including collection rates and delinquency trends.
- Oversee relationships with third-party collection agencies and vendors.
- Approve payment plans, settlements, and hardship accommodations within established guidelines.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including FDCPA, FCRA, FERPA, and higher education requirements.
- Monitor collection practices and conduct periodic audits.
- Prepare executive reports on portfolio performance, recovery trends, and risk exposure.
- Support regulatory reviews and audits as needed.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with Financial Aid, Registrar, Academic Affairs, Legal, and other departments to support student account resolution efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, technology, and the student experience.
- Provide leadership and oversight for student accounts and collections operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, student financial services, or related field.
- 2+ years of leadership or management experience.
- Knowledge of FDCPA, FCRA, FERPA, and related regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing third-party collection agencies.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience in proprietary or higher education.
- Familiarity with student information systems (Campus Nexus, Ellucian, PowerCampus, etc.).
- Knowledge of institutional loan servicing and Title IV regulations.
