Great Northern Laminations in Appleton, WI has a fulltime opening for Traffic Coordinator.
POSITION SUMMARY
Job emphasis is within total transportation management. This position is responsible for running a quality, cost-effective traffic, and distribution operation. This position will make sound contributions to the organization’s bottom-line profits by controlling freight expenses, focusing on past efficiencies while using fewer resources. This is a corporate resource to support national freight coordination for all Laminations locations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
• Be capable of exceptional navigation within our software system(s). Understand Job Tickets, Production Planning & Finished Goods Reports within software system. Be able to interpret software reports generated by outside (non-GNC) warehouses.
• Be the “owner” and manager of the TMS (Traffic Management System) software.
- Approve carrier options to be listed within software.
- Ensure all Lam locations use the TMS for freight quoting and routing.
- Be the liaison and resource with all LAM units for using the TMS system.
• Be an information conduit for LAM internally and with our customers.
• Promote Pull-Demand Schedule.
• Assist plant production schedulers to plan run-dates of orders and help to strategize the correct sequence of manufacture to achieve On-Time-Delivery results required.
• Coordinate the shipping of LAM ALL finished goods by building pool trucks with carriers.
• Assist CSR’s and others with freight quotes for LAM new business quotes.
• Provide planned freight cost to customer service and accounting.
• Track and trace shipments for delivery to customers.
• Determine the most cost-effective shipping methods and/or lanes and negotiate for best pricing with freight carrier sales representatives. Select all freight carriers.
• Create freight partners strategy by building long-term relationships with carriers.
• Provide savings opportunities for inbound freight of paper stock to all LAM locations.
• Coordinate & keep freight “hiring”, (whenever possible) within the GNC fleet, and/or within our own GNC internally-contracted-carrier such as PTI etc.
• Work closely with other GNC facility traffic departments to take advantage of combined GNC purchasing and routing benefits.
• Strives for continuous improvement at Laminations (ie dock appointment system).
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
• Attend GNC Logistics monthly meetings and/or teleconferences.
• Travel to outside warehouse locations to understand their systems and procedures and to know their key leadership staff members.
• Will proofread BOL’s authored by outside warehouses and correct any errors made by outside warehouses in regard to UNIT ID’s and stock levels and counts.
• Be the liaison between the distributor and other internal departments to resolve carrier service issues, delivery adjustments and time critical situations.
• Manager carrier scorecards for review with carriers annually.
• Promotes safety throughout the organization. Recommends & assists in implementing improvements to all operating procedures.
• Provide USMCA, Certificates of Origin and other transportation related documents upon customer request.
• Oversee customer pickups and conversion of customer pickups to LAM shipments.
• Brings forward any unresolved issues in a professional manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Highschool diploma or GED, Logistics/Supply Chain degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years related experience in logistical management and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Ability to communicate well with fellow employees, customers, and our customer’s logistics teams.
4. Ability to read and interpret job jackets and shipping instructions.
5. Ability to apply high school math skills such as simple algebra, ratios, and percentages.
6. Ability to apply logic to work produced, ability to interpret and act on technical instructions.
7. Must be proactive and polite while on the phone many hours each day.
8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
9. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
WORK RELATIONSHIP AND SCOPE
The Traffic Coordinator reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager. Works closely with production schedulers, account coordinators, shipping/receiving and other employees. Frequent contact with trucking companies, vendors, managers of our outsourced warehouse locations and customers.
