The Lead Engineer - Electrical is responsible for delivering electrical design solutions and collaborating with various teams to ensure project success while adhering to safety standards and optimizing resources.
Responsibilities:
- Delivering medium and low voltage electrical design solutions for outdoor and unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, and related EPC projects in both brownfield and greenfield environments
- Develops equipment specifications, reviews field data, and performs system studies including coordination, short circuit, and arc flash analysis
- Collaborates with CAD staff to produce and update electrical drawings, and provides technical recommendations based on power monitoring data
- Acts as a Qualus representative, supports sales during customer site walks, and leads cross-functional interactions to ensure optimal project outcomes
- Resource planning, project kickoff participation, adherence to safety standards, accurate documentation for invoicing, and coordination with suppliers to meet material and equipment requirements
Requirements:
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License required
- 10+ years of design engineering experience on primary power distribution, P&C schemes, and/or electrical equipment
- Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files
- Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57, ANSI C37, and NESC, and other applicable codes and standards in the design of substations and industrial power distribution
- 5+ years of AutoCAD experience
- 5+ years using power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers
- Ability to work independently, accurately, and with a high attention to detail
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or related from an ABET accredited institution, preferred with a focus on power systems
