
Senior SMART on FHIR / Healthcare Interoperability Engineer
About the Role We are seeking an experienced SMART on FHIR Engineer to design, develop, and implement healthcare interoperability solutions that integrate with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems using SMART on FHIR standards. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in FHIR resources, SMART on FHIR authentication and authorization, healthcare workflows, and API integrations with healthcare platforms such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, Meditech, or other FHIR-enabled systems. This role will work closely with product, engineering, security, and healthcare stakeholders to build secure and scalable healthcare applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop SMART on FHIR applications for provider and patient workflows.
Implement SMART App Launch, Backend Services Authorization, OAuth2, OIDC, PKCE, and JWT-based security.
Integrate with Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, Athenahealth, Meditech, and other FHIR-enabled EHRs.
Develop and maintain FHIR APIs, profiles, extensions, implementation guides, and interoperability services.
Build healthcare workflows including patient access, clinical data retrieval, prior authorization, care coordination, and clinical decision support.
Collaborate with architects, product owners, clinicians, and engineering teams.
Ensure HIPAA, SOC2, and healthcare security compliance.
Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and interoperability testing.
