This is an excellent opportunity for a recent or soon-to-be graduate, or an early/mid-career Civil Design Technologist, with an interest in municipal infrastructure who values community connection, enjoys the outdoors, and wants to make a lasting impact on the West Kootenays.

This is an office-based role in ISL’s Rossland office. The successful candidate will be expected to work on site on a full-time basis to support close collaboration, mentorship, client responsiveness, and team culture, with reasonable flexibility for occasional personal appointments or business needs.

About the Role
Working as a member of the Rossland team, you will support the delivery of municipal infrastructure projects in the West Kootenays and have opportunities to contribute to projects beyond your core discipline. We are looking for someone who enjoys building strong working relationships with a wide range of partners involved in infrastructure projects, and who is excited to be part of a multidisciplinary organization. At this stage in your career, you are eager to grow with a collaborative team and are motivated by technical excellence.
Your primary responsibilities would include:
• Developing Civil 3D models and drawings for municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, grading, storm systems, sanitary sewers, water distribution, site servicing, and related civil works.
• Preparing engineering plan sets, plan/profile drawings, complex cross sections, figures, exhibits, and record drawings for municipal infrastructure submissions.
• Assisting with design calculations, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for civil and municipal design deliverables.
• Supporting the preparation of specifications, tender documents, contract documents, and construction packages.
• Consistently applying drafting standards and QA/QC procedures to produce accurate, high-quality deliverables.
• Generating construction layout coordinates and supporting survey, construction stakeout, field review, and record drawing workflows.
• Supporting tender administration, contract administration, site inspections, construction reviews, and on-site support during construction.
• Coordinating with engineers, technologists, clients, utility providers, contractors, and internal teams to communicate information clearly and resolve technical issues.
• Working with mentors to develop and expand your technical, drafting, field, and professional skills across the municipal project lifecycle.

Your experience, coursework, or interests may include municipal infrastructure projects in some of the following areas:
• Municipal Infrastructure Design (civil servicing, corridors, utility coordination, and public infrastructure)
• Transportation & Roadway Infrastructure (roads, intersections, corridors, grading, and streetscape/public realm improvements)
• Stormwater & Drainage Design (storm systems, grading, drainage, and stormwater management facilities)
• Water & Wastewater Infrastructure (distribution, collection, watermains, and sanitary systems as part of broader municipal projects)
• Land Development & Municipal Servicing (subdivisions, site grading, utilities, approvals, and servicing plans)
• Construction Administration & Project Delivery (tendering, QA/QC, site support, field review, and record drawings)

Your cover letter must demonstrate:
• What interests you in municipal infrastructure and/or working in the Kootenay region. If you have a project that you are particularly proud of in this area, tell us about it.
• Your approach to working as both part of a team and independently.
Your resume should show us:
• Graduation (or upcoming) from a program in Civil Engineering Technology and/or Engineering Design Technology.
• Any relevant experience relating to municipal engineering, civil design/drafting, construction, survey, field review, or project delivery.
• Experience with design software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, AutoTURN, MS Office, or related drafting/design tools.
• Eligibility for registration with ASTTBC, ASET, or an equivalent technologist regulatory body is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with MMCD (Master Municipal Construction Documents) and BC municipal standards is considered an asset.
• Bonus points for construction inspection experience, topographic survey, construction stakeout, utility coordination, or record drawing experience.

Depending on your experience level, the salary range (based on a 40-hour work week) is:
• $60,000 - $100,000
