Role:
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of raw materials, packaging components, finished goods, and operational supplies necessary to support manufacturing, fulfillment, and business operations. This role works closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Development, Warehouse, and Finance teams to ensure uninterrupted material availability while balancing inventory investment, supplier performance, quality requirements, and business objectives.
The Buyer plays a critical role in supporting production schedules, new product launches, inventory management initiatives, and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain strong partnerships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
This position will be on-site at our new Mesa, AZ facility.
Responsibilities:
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders for raw materials, packaging components, finished goods, and indirect operational supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels, demand forecasts, production schedules, and purchasing requirements to ensure timely replenishment of materials.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support business needs while minimizing excess inventory and carrying costs.
- Review inventory trends, material consumption, and forecasted demand to identify potential supply risks and replenishment needs.
- Track open purchase orders from placement through receipt and proactively communicate delays, shortages, and supply concerns.
- Expedite critical materials and work directly with suppliers to resolve delivery issues that may impact production or customer fulfillment.
- Coordinate with Warehouse, Manufacturing, and Planning teams to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules and operational requirements.
- Source new suppliers and obtain competitive quotations for materials, packaging components, and operational supplies.
- Evaluate supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, pricing, and overall service levels.
- Support supplier qualification and onboarding activities in partnership with Quality and Regulatory teams.
- Assist with supplier negotiations, pricing discussions, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Monitor market conditions, supplier pricing trends, and material availability to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Partner with Product Development and Commercialization teams to source materials and packaging for new product launches and product improvements.
- Support inventory reconciliation activities, cycle counts, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
- Monitor inventory aging, slow-moving inventory, and obsolete materials and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist with management of supplier documentation, specifications, certificates, and other records required to support quality and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with Finance and Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies, receiving issues, and purchase order variances.
- Maintain accurate supplier, item, and purchasing data within ERP systems.
- Generate and analyze purchasing, inventory, and supplier performance reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on procurement efficiency, inventory optimization, supplier performance, and cost management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, consumer goods, skincare, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or related industries.
- Experience working within ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, and supplier management principles.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to analyze forecasts, inventory reports, supplier performance metrics, and purchasing data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience purchasing raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods.
- Experience supporting FDA-regulated or GMP manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience supporting new product launches and commercialization activities preferred.
- Familiarity with demand planning and inventory replenishment processes.
- Experience working with domestic and international suppliers.
