Job Overview
- The IT Business Analyst III (Contractor) supports client Transportation as a member of an IT delivery team focused on TMS implementation, EDI modernization, and integration delivery across 3PL operations and private fleet logistics.
- This role prioritizes transportation system experience, integration analysis, EDI transaction understanding, data mapping, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable technology requirements, designs, workflows, interface specifications, and testing deliverables.
- The role will work closely with business partners, IT teammates, vendors, architects, developers, EDI/integration teams, and implementation partners throughout the lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through integration testing, user acceptance, deployment readiness, and production support transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize TMS, EDI, and integration requirements by working with business stakeholders, IT teammates, vendors, and implementation partners to understand transportation processes, pain points, data flows, and desired outcomes.
- Analyze, document, and refine existing business requirements, functional requirements, integration requirements, EDI transaction needs, data requirements, process flows, gaps, assumptions, risks, and dependencies.
- Translate transportation business needs into actionable technology requirements and designs that support TMS configuration, logistics operations, EDI transactions, API/file integrations, reporting needs, and downstream system impacts.
- Support scope refinement by helping distinguish current-state processes, future state TMS requirements, implementation priorities, integration dependencies, EDI scope, and out-of-scope items.
- Review and refine end-to-end transportation workflows across routing, dispatch, load tendering, shipment status, carrier management, freight settlement, financial flows, customer and vendor data, reporting, and exception handling.
- Partner with business and technical teams to define data mappings, field-level requirements, message flows, file/API specifications, EDI transaction requirements, transformation rules, and business meaning for data exchanged between TMS, ERP, EDI, and partner systems.
- Assist IT teammates and vendors with TMS solution validation, system testing, integration testing, EDI testing, defect triage, and issue resolution to ensure deliverables meet documented requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate user acceptance testing with Red Classic business partners, including test scenario definition for TMS workflows, EDI transactions, integrations, test case review, defect tracking, retesting, and sign-off support.
- Gather user feedback on TMS, EDI, integration, reporting, and operational deliverables and help convert feedback into prioritized backlog items,
- enhancements, documentation updates, or support transition actions.
- Provide Level 2 support input for the assigned application and integration portfolio by supporting root cause analysis, coordinating with business and IT teammates, and documenting repeatable support processes.
- Maintain project documentation standards, including TMS requirements, EDI/interface documentation, process maps, data mapping artifacts, decision logs, risks, issues, dependencies, testing evidence, and operational handoff materials.
- Support Agile and SDLC delivery practices, including backlog refinement, user story development, acceptance criteria, sprint reviews, issue tracking, and continuous improvement activities for TMS, EDI, and integration workstreams as needed.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with business partners, project leadership, IT delivery teams, vendors, and integration teams regarding status, risks, blockers, decisions, and required follow-up. Transportation & TMS Focus
- Strong experience supporting TMS implementations or logistics technology projects, preferably involving third-party hosted or SaaS solutions such as Mastermind, SAP TM, TMW, or similar platforms.
- Ability to connect TMS functionality with EDI transactions, API/file integrations, ERP touchpoints, reporting needs, and downstream operational and financial processes.
- Understanding of 3PL, brokerage, managed freight, dedicated transportation, and private fleet operations, with emphasis on how those processes are enabled through TMS workflows and integrations.
- Ability to understand and document current-state and future-state transportation flows across order/load creation, planning, routing, dispatch, tendering, tracking, settlement, invoicing, payment, EDI status updates, and reporting.
- Ability to work with transportation SMEs, EDI/integration teams, vendors, and architects to clarify operational requirements, identify process gaps, and ensure future-state workflows support business and technical needs.
