Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to join their Aviation & Federal global practice. The role involves designing electrical systems for various projects in aviation and federal sectors, collaborating with project teams to deliver solutions tailored to client specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Perform design of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, and low-voltage systems
- Serve as technical support on airport, federal, and defense projects, ensuring designs meet strict security, code compliance, and performance standards
- Support project teams in delivering world-class infrastructure for clients such as commercial airlines, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy
- Coordinate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure fully integrated design solutions
- Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and field verifications as needed to inform design and construction activities
- Prepare electrical calculations, detailed drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design tools
- Perform or support electrical system modeling and analysis, including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies
- Participate in or support client meetings, design reviews, and presentations, effectively communicating technical information
- Support construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field support, and final inspections
- Familiarity with UFC, NEC, NFPA, and federal design standards is preferred
- Familiarity with buildings and vertical construction is preferred
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience required
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of electrical engineering experience required
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience required
- Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong computer skills include Revit, AutoCAD, 2D and 3D rendering programs, and other analysis programs
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
- Consulting experience preferred
- Familiarity with UFC, NEC, NFPA, and federal design standards is preferred
- Familiarity with buildings and vertical construction is preferred
- Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification is preferred
