UL Research Institutes is seeking a Research Scientist III- Data Analyst to join their team. This role involves analyzing data and developing models related to fire safety science to support the Fire Safety Research Institute's mission. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other researchers and contribute to the development of data products and models.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies fundamental knowledge needed to enhance UL Research Institutes’ thought leadership and support the strategy of UL Research Institutes
- Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific research tasks
- Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts and guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods
- Contribute to the development of reusable data products and standardized data models across research domains
- Analyzes emergency response data to determine trends and develop solutions
- Stays ahead of changing technologies, in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, and attending academic conferences
- Plan, design, and complete initial and follow-up tests as needed to validate results
- Work with students and teams
- Present research results internally or externally as needed
- Perform other duties as directed
Requirements:
- Expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis testing
- Experience designing interactive dashboards, reports, and executive-level presentations
- Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data analysis libraries
- Excellent communication skills required
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platforms and analytics environments (AWS, Snowflake, Dash)
- Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Research Scientists and other team members in order to complete a project from start to finish
- Ability to serve as lead author on reports and papers
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 8 or more years of directly related work experience or
- Master's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 4 or more years of directly related work experience or
- PhD in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent experience plus 2 or more years of directly related work experience
