Research Scientist III \- Data Analyst

Sugino Corp. is seeking a Research Scientist III - Data Analyst to join UL Research Institutes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing safety science. The role involves analyzing data, developing models related to fire safety, and preparing reports and visualizations to support research initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Identifies fundamental knowledge needed to enhance UL Research Institutes’ thought leadership and support the strategy of UL Research Institutes
• Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific research tasks. Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts and guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods
• Contribute to the development of reusable data products and standardized data models across research domains
• Analyzes emergency response data to determine trends and develop solutions
• Stays ahead of changing technologies, in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, and attending academic conferences
• Plan, design, and complete initial and follow-up tests as needed to validate results
• Work with students and teams
• Present research results internally or externally as needed
• Perform other duties as directed

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 8 or more years of directly related work experience
• Master's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 4 or more years of directly related work experience
• PhD in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent experience plus 2 or more years of directly related work experience
• Expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis testing
• Experience designing interactive dashboards, reports, and executive-level presentations
• Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data analysis libraries
• Excellent communication skills required
• Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platforms and analytics environments (AWS, Snowflake, Dash)
• Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Research Scientists and other team members in order to complete a project from start to finish
• Ability to serve as lead author on reports and papers
