H&R Block is a leader in tax preparation and financial services, and they are seeking a Director of Product Design for Financial Products & Native Apps. This role involves leading the strategy and execution of digital customer journeys while guiding a team of product and content designers to improve customer experiences and business outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of our native app migration and own the end-to-end experience vision and design for H&R Block’s centralized client experiences
- Create a vision and partner to build a roadmap that delivers growth in both clients and engagement metrics across our suite of financial products, including our Spruce Money digital banking product and seasonal loan options
- Deliver best-in-class login experiences, SSO, multi-factor authentication, and account security flows across consumer applications to reduce customer friction and increase customer authentication rates
- Define experiences for user profiles, account settings, privacy controls, and identity verification flows to deliver a simplified and more accessible data ecosystem
- Establish patterns that helps reduce fraud risk while maintaining usability and increasing customer trust
- Inspire and coach a distributed design organization
- Directly manage and empower design managers and leads — helping them grow as leaders who can scale quality, talent, and delivery
- Build an inclusive, collaborative environment where designers and managers at all levels can do their best work
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Stakeholders to define the experience vision, drive innovation, and strengthen the product development culture
- Raise the bar for craft, usability, and systems thinking—investing in practices that support world-class design across the broader design community
- Collaborate with fellow design leaders to align priorities and deliver consistent experiences across product lines and journeys
- Mentor, coach, and sponsor future design leaders through feedback, development plans, and opportunity creation
Requirements:
- 10+ years in product design or UX design, with significant experience in enterprise and/or B2C products
- 5+ years leading design teams
- Experience building and scaling design systems in a large organization (patterns, governance, and adoption)
- A strong portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, end-to-end problem solving, and high-quality craft
- Demonstrated partnership with Product Management and Engineering in an agile environment, with the ability to influence priorities and tradeoffs
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence—able to tell compelling stories with design and align diverse stakeholders
- Deep understanding of modern design tools and workflows (e.g., Figma, design tokens, component libraries) and how to scale them across teams
- Customer obsession and a strong point of view on product strategy, with the confidence to advocate for it while incorporating data and feedback
- Ability to operate at scale across multiple functions, product lines, and complex technical platforms
- Fluency with AI-powered design and prototyping tools (e.g., Lovable, Builder.io, Figma MCP) and a clear point of view on how to integrate them into design-to-code workflows at scale
- Experience with developer tools, internal platforms, or platform design
- FinTech and/or regulated-industry experience
- User research and/or design operations background
- Experience designing AI-powered experiences or conversational interfaces
- Accessibility expertise (WCAG, inclusive design)
- Experience shipping products across multiple platforms and geographies
