Randstad Digital Americas is a premier, rapidly expanding data center infrastructure provider. They are seeking a Colocation Engineer focused on electrical and power design, responsible for drafting electrical layouts and designing power distribution schemes for data center environments.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizing AutoCAD daily to draft, route, and design electrical layouts, fiber routing, and power distribution schemes for data center environments
- Performing precise electrical calculations, selecting breakers, and specifying Remote Power Panels (RPPs) and Power Distribution Units (PDUs) to meet specific capacity needs
- Reviewing overall power infrastructure to identify imbalances, call out legacy design anomalies, and engineer solutions for new installations
- Designing secure customer cage environments, optimal cabinet placements, and advanced air containment systems to maximize cooling efficiency
- Collaborating directly with corporate sales engineers, operational capacity teams, and external enterprise clients to validate and finalize technical space and power infrastructure solutions
- Conducting early-phase regional site visits (averaging one week per month or 3 to 4 short trips within the first 90 days) to audit physical locations, with travel tapering off significantly to a quarterly or as-needed basis once ramped up
Requirements:
- Strong technical background in electrical engineering and power distribution systems (e.g., performing calculations, selecting breakers, distribution schemes)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for daily engineering design, drafting, and layout modifications
- Solid understanding of electrical distribution topologies such as 2N (A/B), 3-to-make-2 (3/2), or 4-to-make-3 (4/3) redundancy configurations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and direct client interactions
- Ability to travel up to 25% initially for regional site assessments (tapering off significantly after the first 90 days)
- Experience with Remote Power Panel (RPP) or Power Distribution Unit (PDU) configuration and load analysis
- Familiarity with data center capacity management tools (e.g., Nlyte, Carma) or Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Knowledge of mechanical components such as airflow dynamics, containment systems, and cooling efficiency
- Experience drafting full Scope of Work (SOW) packages for enterprise technical infrastructure deployment
