Olsson is an engineering and design firm that focuses on improving the world through innovative solutions. They are seeking a Controls Design Engineer - BMS to design instrumentation and control systems for Data Centers, manage BMS design tasks, and ensure proper construction and compliance of Building Management Systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the selection and specification of:
- Process instrumentation
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) equipment or (DDC) Direct Digital Controls
- Develop and approve control system (BMS) sequences of operations
- Manage assigned BMS design tasks including scope, schedule, and quality
- Perform technical review and approval of instrumentation and control system deliverables
- Review submittals, conduct field inspections, and verify compliance with design intent
- Independently analyze and resolve complex technical problems within the engineer’s discipline
- Act as technical lead, supervisor, and resource to the design team
- Train, mentor, and support the education and professional development of staff
- Participate in the preparation, review, and approval of RFP response content and pricing
- Demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills, organization, flexibility, and collaboration
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Travel to project site visits as needed, roughly 15-35%
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions
- Ability to independently resolve complex problems within the engineering discipline
- 6+ years of experience designing BMS or control systems
- Attention to and passion for detail, quality, and system reliability
- Experience acting as a technical resource or supervisor to design teams
- Ability to support staff education, mentoring, and professional development
- Participation in proposal development, including RFP technical content and pricing support
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred
- Willingness to actively participate in the engineering and professional community (seminars, conferences, publications)
