New Era Technology is seeking a skilled and motivated Mid-Level Network Engineer to support the planning, execution, and implementation of data center migration projects for a major multinational financial client. The ideal candidate will have solid hands-on networking experience and a strong understanding of data center environments, executing migration tasks effectively under the guidance of senior engineers and project leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Execute network deployment and migration tasks associated with data center compute migrations, including pre-migration assessments, cutover activities, and post-migration validation
- Support end-to-end network implementation for compute migration waves, ensuring network readiness at both source and destination data centers
- Serve as a key technical contributor for network-related aspects of assigned migration projects, escalating complex issues to senior engineers as needed
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (compute, storage and application teams) to ensure seamless migration of workloads with minimal downtime
- Engage with third-party vendors, including telecom carriers and colocation providers, for circuit provisioning, cross-connects, and troubleshooting during migration activities
- Ensure all network changes adhere to established change management processes, security policies, compliance requirements, and best practices
- Develop and maintain network documentation, including migration runbooks, network diagrams, IP allocation records, configuration templates, and post-migration validation checklists
- Participate in migration rehearsals and dry runs, identifying potential risks and contributing to rollback plans
Requirements:
- 5 to 8 years of experience in network engineering, with a meaningful portion focused on data center environments
- Demonstrated experience participating in or supporting data center migrations, consolidations, or large-scale infrastructure moves
- Hands-on experience executing network changes during planned maintenance windows and migration cutovers, including off-hours work as required
- Experience working within structured change management processes
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and follow project plans under the direction of senior engineers or project managers
- Experience interacting with third-party vendors and carriers for circuit-related activities
- Core Routing & Switching - Strong hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting enterprise-grade routers and switches (e.g., Nexus, IOSXR and IOSXE platforms)
- BGP Routing - Solid working knowledge of BGP in data center and enterprise environments, including session establishment, route advertisement, and route manipulation
- Network Segmentation - Practical experience configuring and managing VRFs (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) and VLANs to support workload isolation during and after migrations
- Data Center Networking - Familiarity with data center network architectures, including spine-leaf topologies and overlay technologies such as Segment routing and EVPN
- Network Security - Solid understanding of ACLs, firewall rule coordination, and security zone concepts relevant to migration traffic flows
- IP Address Management (IPAM) - Proficient in IP address planning, subnetting, re-addressing, and allocation — particularly in the context of migrating workloads between data centers with differing IP schemes
- Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting - Experience using network monitoring tools (e.g., Probers, Wireshark, SNMP-based tools) for pre- and post-migration health checks and rapid issue resolution
- QoS (Quality of Service) - Working knowledge of QoS policies and traffic prioritization, particularly for ensuring critical application performance during migration windows
- Execution & Accountability: Ability to take ownership of assigned migration tasks and drive them to completion with moderate supervision, proactively flagging risks and blockers
- Organization & Attention to Detail: Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail — critical for tracking migration waves, IP re-addressing, and configuration accuracy
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to provide clear status updates, document migration outcomes, and participate in bridge calls during cutovers
- Problem-Solving: Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve network issues efficiently during time-sensitive migration windows
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary migration team (compute, storage, security, applications) and escalate appropriately
- Documentation: Proficient in creating and maintaining comprehensive migration documentation, including network diagrams, runbooks, validation checklists, and post-migration reports
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in dynamic project environments with shifting timelines and priorities; willing to work off-hours during migration cutovers as needed
- Minimum of Bachelors Degree Required
- Network Automation & Scripting: Familiarity with Python, Ansible, or similar tools for automating repetitive migration tasks such as configuration generation, validation checks, and bulk changes
- Load Balancing: Basic experience with load balancers (e.g., Citrix NetScaler) and understanding of VIP migrations
- Segment Routing: Familiarity with Segment Routing technologies (e.g., SR-MPLS and EVPN) as applicable to data center interconnects
- Cisco Certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP Enterprise)
- Aruba Certifications (e.g., ACMA, ACMP)
