Kforce Inc. is seeking an EMS Data Engineer to support the design, integration, and optimization of data pipelines within Energy Management Systems. This role involves ensuring accurate and timely data availability, enabling advanced analytics, and collaborating with various teams to support grid operations and enterprise data initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting EMS and SCADA systems
- Integrate real-time operational data from EMS platforms into enterprise data environments (e.g., data lakes, warehouses)
- Work closely with operations, grid engineering, and IT teams to ensure accurate and timely data availability
- Support data modeling and transformation for power systems data, including telemetry, outage, and asset data
- Enable downstream use cases such as advanced analytics, forecasting, and grid optimization
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance across EMS data flows
- Troubleshoot and resolve data integration and performance issues in real-time environments
- Collaborate with system integrators and vendors on EMS-related data initiatives
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with exposure to EMS or SCADA environments
- Strong understanding of Energy Management Systems and utility operations (Transmission & Distribution preferred)
- Experience with real-time data ingestion and streaming technologies
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Familiarity with time-series data and industrial protocols (e.g., ICCP, OPC)
- Experience working with large-scale data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Hadoop)
- Experience with EMS platforms such as GE, Siemens, or ABB
- Knowledge of grid operations, load forecasting, or outage management systems (OMS)
- Familiarity with data governance and regulatory requirements in the utilities industry
- Prior experience supporting digital transformation initiatives within utilities
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across business and technical teams
- Ability to operate in fast-paced, mission-critical environments
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
