Halff is a full-service infrastructure consulting firm that has an immediate opening for a Business Systems Data Analyst / Power BI & Fabric Developer. The role involves designing polished Power BI dashboards, working with SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric, and transforming complex data into reliable analytics-ready structures.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of polished Power BI dashboards, including report layout, usability, DAX measures, relationships, semantic models, and performance tuning
- Research and understand existing SQL Server VP/DataMart datasets, Microsoft Fabric data assets, semantic models, and reporting logic
- Design and maintain curated reporting datasets and semantic models in Microsoft Fabric to support scalable, governed analytics
- Transform complex ERP, accounting, project, HR, and operational data into clean, reliable, analytics-ready structures
- Help improve and expand ETL processes in SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric, working with internal team members and consultants
- Trace data from source systems through SQL, Fabric, semantic models, and Power BI reports to validate accuracy and explain results
- Validate dashboards and datasets against source systems, legacy reports, accounting outputs, and other trusted reporting sources
- Collaborate with internal clients to translate business needs into technical requirements, identify appropriate data sources, and deliver vetted dashboards and datasets
- Document dataset definitions, business rules, data lineage, assumptions, and known limitations
- Support front-office, production/operations, and management reporting needs as part of a cross-trained Business Systems team
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Analysis, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related area; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 2 - 3 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or in a related analytical role
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience, including writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex T-SQL queries, views, and stored procedures
- Advanced Power BI experience, including DAX, data modeling, semantic models, report design, performance tuning, and row/column-level security
- Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including fact/dimension design, grain, star schema design, snowflake schema design, relationships, and reporting performance
- Demonstrated ability to research unfamiliar business data, understand source-system context, and turn complex operational data into trusted reporting structures
- Experience validating data and dashboards against other reporting sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and business confidence
- Ability to work with business leaders, accounting/finance, operations, and technical team members to understand business needs and deliver practical data solutions
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platform concepts, including curated datasets, pipelines, lakehouse/warehouse patterns, or medallion architecture
- Ability to manage small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity
- Strong curiosity, persistence, and ability to quickly learn new business systems, tools, terminology, and processes
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision or other Deltek products
- Experience with AEC, professional services, project accounting, or ERP-driven project financial data
- Experience creating dashboards for project performance, billing, utilization, backlog, revenue, labor, financial, or operational reporting
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric medallion architecture, data pipelines, lakehouses, warehouses, notebooks, or Dataflows Gen2
- Experience developing reusable governed datasets for enterprise reporting
- Experience with UKG Pro or other HR management systems
- Experience maintaining or developing business workflows using ERP-native workflow tools or external automation platforms
- Understanding of compliance, data governance, security, lineage, and documentation practices in reporting and system design
