Senior IT Project Manager / PMP Certified / Onsite / Rancho Cordova, CA Our team is partnering with a major California public sector organization to hire a part-time Senior IT Project Manager to support highly visible, enterprise-level technology initiatives. This role is ideal for a seasoned PM who thrives in complex environments, enjoys collaborating with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, and has experience leading large-scale IT programs from initiation through delivery.
This opportunity will focus on driving strategic IT initiatives, managing large project teams, overseeing vendor and stakeholder coordination, and ensuring successful execution across multiple technology workstreams. This position will require 10 hours of work per week, reporting onsite Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Contract Duration: 9+ Months
Required Skills & Experience - 7+ years of progressively responsible IT Project Management experience
- 4+ years managing large-scale or complex enterprise IT projects as a Senior Project Manager
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and managing multiple stakeholders simultaneously
- Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project delivery methodologies
- Advanced communication, leadership, analytical, and organizational skills
- Experience creating executive-level reporting and presentations
- Active PMP Certification from PMI is required and cannot be substituted with experience
Desired Skills & Experience - Experience working within public sector or government environments
- Familiarity with CA-PMF, PMBOK, or state governance frameworks
- Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, modernization, or large-scale digital transformation initiatives
What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities - Lead and oversee large-scale, complex IT projects and enterprise initiatives
- Partner closely with Product Managers and Product Owners to support product vision, roadmaps, and delivery execution
- Define project scope, requirements, schedules, milestones, deliverables, and release plans
- Manage project resources, budgets, timelines, risks, dependencies, and quality assurance processes
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and project assessments
- Facilitate executive presentations, status briefings, and stakeholder communications
- Drive project governance, change management, compliance, and documentation standards
- Coordinate with technical teams, agency leadership, vendors, and external stakeholders
- Support Agile and iterative delivery methodologies while ensuring alignment with PM best practices
- Maintain project reporting, dashboards, and documentation using Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, MS Project, and Visio
- Ensure compliance with applicable state policies, PM frameworks, and security procedures
