MDAEdge is a company specializing in fire safety engineering, and they are seeking a Fire Safety Engineer to serve as the subject matter expert for utility-scale battery energy storage systems. The role involves reviewing safety reports, guiding fire safety system designs, and ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the fire safety subject matter expert for utility-scale BESS
- Review UL 9540A reports from cell to installation level and provide guidance
- Analyze, approve, and guide fire safety system designs for BESS
- Review and advise on designs for BESS safety and code compliance with UL, NFPA, and IFC
- Oversee safety analyses including HMA, FMEA, heat flux analysis, and CFD simulations to ensure fire safety requirements are met or exceeded
- Build relationships with fire institutions and first responders, including Fire Marshals, Fire Departments, and education partners
- Travel to local jurisdictions to present BESS and fire safety to first responders, AHJs, PUCs, and community meetings and address stakeholder concerns
Requirements:
- Subject matter expert in fire safety for utility-scale battery energy storage systems
- Experience reviewing UL 9540A reports at cell, module, unit, and installation levels and providing direction
- Experience analyzing, approving, and guiding fire safety system designs for BESS manufacturers and projects
- Experience reviewing and advising on project and product designs for BESS safety and code compliance with UL, NFPA, and IFC
- Experience overseeing safety analyses such as HMA, FMEA, heat flux analysis, and CFD simulations to meet or exceed fire safety requirements
- Experience planning and organizing engineering projects that require advanced knowledge
- Ability to make independent technical decisions without regular review
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Ability to drive as part of position duties
- Professional Engineer certification
