Staff Software Engineer (Gradient Health)

Gradient Health is building data infrastructure for medical AI, providing access to de-identified medical imaging studies. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to write code daily, take ownership of significant parts of the platform, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Building and scaling the data pipelines that ingest, process, and serve medical imaging data
• Designing and shipping new product capabilities end-to-end
• Setting the engineering bar: code review, testing, architecture, deployment practices
• Talking to customers (radiologists, hospital data teams, AI researchers) and translating what you hear into technical decisions
• Mentoring junior engineers and helping the team grow as we hire

Requirements:

• Min. 7 years of software engineering experience
• Ideally experience as a tech lead with a team of 4+ engineers
• Strong architectural instincts, both on a codebase and system design level
• Must be strong with Cloud frameworks (either GCP, AWS, Azure) and data pipelines (petabyte scale)
• Passionate about mentorship and leadership
• You care about the customer. You don't need a healthcare background, but you do need to want to understand the people using what you build
• Python experience preferred
• Frontend experience is a plus, but not required
• Experience in startups/scaleups a plus, especially as one of the early engineers who has seen a team grow around you
