Dermsquared is a leading healthcare solutions platform focused on enhancing patient care through innovative educational content. They are seeking a Principal Data Engineer to build and maintain the data infrastructure that supports their growth and analytics needs.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain ETL and reverse-ETL pipelines connecting our MarTech and healthcare data stack — CRM, marketing automation, event management, content platforms, and third-party healthcare data — into the cloud data warehouse
- Own the cloud data warehouse and its transformation layer — staging, business logic, and mart tables — keeping data clean, documented, and performant for analytics and data science
- Integrate specialty healthcare datasets — pharmaceutical claims and HCP intelligence — with our first-party engagement data, building the joins and transformations that make them actionable for commercial measurement and clinical personalization
- Define and enforce engineering best practices — code standards, testing, documentation, schema governance, and data dictionary — so analytics and data science can move fast without breaking things
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance, resolving data quality and availability issues before they block analytics
- Stay current with the modern data stack and introduce new tools — connectors, transformation frameworks, orchestration, or ML compute — as we scale
- Partner with analytics, data science, product, and commercial teams to turn business requirements into reliable, scalable solutions — making data accessible, never the bottleneck
Requirements:
- 7+ years in data or platform engineering, with proven ownership of production data infrastructure
- Expert SQL and deep hands-on Snowflake experience (required, not preferred — it's our warehouse of record)
- Strong experience with dbt or a similar SQL transformation framework — modeling, testing, documentation, and CI/CD
- Experience configuring and operating pipeline tooling such as Fivetran, Airbyte, or Segment at scale
- Strong hands-on AWS experience (our cloud), including data services like S3, Glue, Lambda, or EMR. Other clouds are a plus but not a substitute
- Strong Python skills for custom pipelines and automation
- Experience integrating CRM, marketing automation, event, or content platforms via REST APIs, webhooks, or event streams
- Healthcare experience — especially pharmaceutical claims, HCP, or health system data — is a strong plus
- Able to explain architecture decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
