American Logistics builds mission-critical infrastructure for national transportation benefits in healthcare and public transit. The Software Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers to develop and operate platforms for their NEMT dispatching ecosystem, ensuring high-quality delivery and technical excellence while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers across all levels, owning hiring, performance management, career development, and day-to-day operational health of the team
- Drive predictable, high-quality delivery: scope work with Product, sequence roadmaps, identify and remove blockers, and maintain healthy operational rhythms (planning, reviews, and retros)
- Partner with Tech Leads and senior engineers to set technical direction, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and ensure designs meet our reliability, security, and HIPAA compliance bar
- Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, strong code review practices, automated testing, observability, incident response, and continuous improvement of the SDLC
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, UX, Data, and other Engineering teams to align on goals, dependencies, and integration points across our dispatching ecosystem
- Represent the team to leadership, communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly, and translate business priorities into focused technical execution
- Stay close to the work: review designs and PRs at a technical level, debug alongside the team when needed, remain credible as a hands-on engineering, and be trusted to make high-stakes technical calls
Requirements:
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers directly
- You have shipped production systems in modern web and cloud stacks (Node.js / TypeScript / React or comparable) and can engage credibly on architecture, code, and operations
- Demonstrated success leading a team to consistent, high-quality delivery, including hiring, calibrating performance, supporting career growth, and navigating difficult conversations with empathy and clarity
- Strong technical foundation in distributed systems and cloud-native architectures
- Hands-on familiarity with React, TypeScript, NodeJS, Express, AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, Cognito, SQS / SNS) and modern databases such as DynamoDB and PostgreSQL
- Experience operating high-availability production systems through: EKS, Kubernetes, CI/CD with GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code, observability tools, and a deep respect for security and data privacy
- Prior exposure to HIPAA, PHI, or other regulated environments is a strong plus
- Excellent cross-functional communicator. You partner naturally with Product and UX, translate business needs into technical plans, and represent your team's work clearly to executives and peers
