Veristar Energy is focused on delivering high-performance clean-energy solutions, and they are seeking a Distributed Energy Engineer to lead energy projects across North America. This role combines engineering expertise with project management skills to ensure successful project execution from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with local engineers and contractors to scope, design, and deliver advanced distributed energy systems including microturbines, renewable generation, battery energy storage (BESS), biogas conditioning treatment, heat recovery, advanced controls, and other emerging clean-tech technologies
- Provide hands-on application engineering support throughout all phases of design to ensure performance, constructability, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Review technical drawings, calculations, and system designs for quality and alignment with project objectives
- Develop comprehensive project plans including budgets, schedules, risk assessments, and performance benchmarks
- Lead all phases of project execution: development, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handoff
- Maintain tight control of cost, schedule, safety, and quality to ensure successful, on-time, on-budget delivery
- Proactively identify and mitigate project risks
- Work closely with internal teams, design/build partners, and equipment vendors to optimize technical and commercial outcomes
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers—translating technical requirements into practical solutions and maintaining clear communication throughout the project lifecycle
- Build trusted relationships with customers through consistent performance and transparency
- Support proposal development, technical marketing, and project feasibility evaluations
- Identify new technology applications, service strategies, and revenue opportunities that strengthen Veristar’s market position
- Contribute to long-term service and lifecycle planning to maximize project performance and profitability after commissioning
- Stay current on evolving energy technologies, regulations, and market trends
- Recommend improvements to engineering standards, project execution processes, and internal tools to improve efficiency and customer outcomes
- Bring an innovative, problem-solving mindset to both technical and operational challenges
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required
- 3-5+ years of experience delivering or supporting complex energy, infrastructure, or building systems projects (e.g., distributed energy, power generation, HVAC/mechanical systems, controls, or mission-critical facilities)
- Experience working directly with engineering teams, contractors, and equipment vendors to deliver projects from design through construction, commissioning, or operational handoff
- Demonstrated experience coordinating project execution including scheduling, budgeting, technical reviews, and risk management
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to customers, contractors, and cross-functional teams
- Ability to lead technical discussions, review engineering documents, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to move projects forward
- Self-starter with strong ownership mentality and ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving project scopes
- Comfortable working in a hands-on project delivery environment that includes site visits and collaboration with field teams
- Familiarity with distributed energy or onsite power systems such as CHP, microgrids, generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or renewable generation strongly preferred
- Controls and automation experience including PLC programming is an asset
- Background in commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center, or mission-critical facilities strongly preferred
- Project Management certification (PMP, CAPM) or formal PM training is a plus but not required
