Kelly Science, Engineering, Technology & Telecom is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as a senior technical lead responsible for power system design, analysis, and project execution. The role involves leading the design of various electrical systems, developing concepts and calculations for system upgrades, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design of substations, sub-transmission, switching stations, and complex distribution systems
- Develop concepts, calculations, and cost estimates for system upgrades
- Create detailed engineering packages, including microgrids (renewable + conventional generation)
- Build/review system models (ETAP or similar) and validate study results
- Prepare/review design reports, specs, and procedures
- Analyze faults, power quality, and system performance; implement solutions
- Support field walk-downs and construction through project lifecycle
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards
- Maintain client relationships
- Mentor junior engineers
Requirements:
- BSEE (power systems focus)
- 12+ years utility experience, including 5+ years in leadership
- PE license required
- Expertise in power system analysis, protection/relaying, and distribution modeling
- Strong experience with substations and medium-voltage systems
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar
- Experience with project planning tools (MS Project or similar)
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- U.S. Citizenship required (federal contractor)
- Valid driver's license required
