About this role
Largeton Group is seeking a UNIX Engineer 3 to provide advanced operations and support for UNIX environments. The role involves leading UNIX projects, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring high availability of UNIX services across multiple locations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 24x7x365 advanced operations, deployment, and problem support for UNIX environments (IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, various Linux distributions)
- Install, maintain, and administer multiple UNIX servers across multiple locations
- Take lead in medium to large-scale UNIX projects, process improvements, and the development of organizational standards
- Develop and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and project scopes for UNIX systems
- Oversee and mentor junior staff (Intern/Contract/Temp/Level I & II), acting as subject matter expert (SME) in UNIX technology disciplines
- Monitor and review contractual agreements and long/short-term planning strategies
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for UNIX-related incidents and escalated help desk tickets
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design, evaluate, and implement UNIX solutions for production environments
- Ensure high availability and performance of enterprise-wide UNIX services, including handling high-demand and mission-critical issues
- Maintain advanced knowledge of UNIX technologies, server hardware, storage solutions (SAN/NAS), enterprise backup, and security protocols
- Perform maintenance activities (daily/weekly/monthly/annually) and participate in on-call/pager rotation, including some weekend work
- Utilize advanced UNIX shell scripting and programming (shell, Perl) for automation and performance tuning
- Work with advanced internet server protocols, storage technologies, clustering, and enterprise backup solutions
- Interface with all levels of management and external partners, demonstrating strong communication and organizational skills
Requirements:
- Bachelor s in IT or related field
- 5+ years UNIX experience
- advanced technical expertise in distributed systems

- Sun Certified Solaris Administrator certification
- experience with healthcare insurance clients
- knowledge of Windows NT server environments
