COBOL Software Engineer | Remote

CodeGeniusRecruit is looking for a COBOL Software Engineer to work on legacy systems. The role involves reading, interpreting, and debugging COBOL programs, writing production-quality code, and providing feedback to improve model performance on software workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Read, interpret, and debug COBOL programs, copybooks, JCL, and related mainframe code
• Write production-quality COBOL code based on technical requirements
• Review model-generated COBOL solutions for correctness, completeness, and coding style
• Create and evaluate test cases for legacy COBOL programs
• Explain business logic, code behavior, and data flow across enterprise systems
• Provide detailed feedback to improve model performance on legacy software workflows

Requirements:

• Strong experience in COBOL development and legacy enterprise systems
• Ability to independently read, write, and debug COBOL code
• Familiarity with mainframe environments such as IBM z/OS
• Strong debugging, code review, and edge-case reasoning skills
• Clear written communication in English
• Experience with JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, or copybooks is a plus
