Mayo Clinic is seeking a Senior IT Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate enterprise cloud platforms that enable secure, scalable, and automated workloads across public cloud and on-prem environments. This role focuses on platform enablement, automation, and operational excellence in support of application and data teams.
Responsibilities:
- Design and operate hybrid cloud platform capabilities supporting containerized and cloud‑native workloads
- Build and maintain Kubernetes-based platforms with an emphasis on reliability, security, and scalability
- Enable application and data teams through standardized platform services, automation, and documentation
- Support migrations from on‑prem systems to cloud and container-based architectures
- Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) and automation to improve efficiency and consistency
- Ensure solutions align with HIPAA and Mayo Clinic security and compliance standards
- Participate in architecture reviews and troubleshoot complex cloud and platform issues
- Mentor peers and contribute to operational standards and best practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years' demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience, or Associate's degree with 7 years' experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience, or HS/GED with 9 years of experience and 1 years' of demonstrated leadership experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple environments including cloud and on-premise, and multiple operating systems
- Functional understanding of cloud ecosystem and leading-edge cloud emerging technologies
- Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, hardware and tools to the design and production of various products and services
- Working knowledge of data center design best practices
- Knowledge of and ability to apply DevOps principles and ways of working
- Ability to develop and deliver requirements, concepts of operations, use cases, demonstrations, and presentations to both one-to-one and in small groups
- Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, managing, and resolving technical (hardware, software, application, or operational) problems
- Ability to effectively communicate with and present to senior management and executive stakeholders (e.g., IT Leadership)
- Certification in cloud engineering is required
- Experience in cloud, platform, or systems engineering roles
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes in enterprise environments
- Experience with Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform
- Strong Linux, networking, and secure system design skills
- Experience with automation and IaC (e.g., Terraform, scripting)
- Experience supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments
- Familiarity with container platform operations and observability
- Experience in regulated environments, such as healthcare
- Cloud certifications (Azure or Google Cloud)
- Strong documentation and communication skills
