Certified Ophthalmic Technician

Role Overview

• Obtain medical history on all patients
• Conduct preliminary eye exams, such as screening for vision problems or measuring intraocular pressure
• Administer diagnostic tests and procedures, such as OCT, retinal photography or visual field testing
• Assist with procedures, such as laser eye surgery or injections
• Educate patients about eye care and vision health, such as the proper use of contact lenses or eyeglasses
• Perform office and administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments or managing inventory
• Prepare patients for surgeries
• Support and assist with education of patients

Requirements

• High School degree or equivalent required
• Current certification as an Ophthalmic Technician from an accepted accredited organization is required
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Ophthalmic Technician (COT) required.
