Data Engineer I, AWS, Databricks

Role Overview

• Build and operationalize complex data solutions, correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing/quality solutions.
• Design data solutions.
• Analyze sources to determine value and recommend data to include in analytical processes.
• Incorporate core data management competencies including data governance, data security and data quality.
• Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products/analytic environment.
• Perform data and system analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of moderate complexity and correct as appropriate.
• Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
• Six years of related experience.
• Strong data engineering fundamentals and principles, with hands-on experience designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines.
• Proficient with cloud platforms and modern data technologies, including: AWS: Lambdas, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Athena Databricks: Notebooks, Jobs, Unity Catalog, Genie, and concepts such as Autoloader, streaming, and near real-time data processing
• Experience working with AI tools and concepts (e.g., Claude) and familiarity with developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot.
• Comfortable using key engineering and DevOps tools, including Jira, GitHub, Snyk, ServiceNow, and Autosys.
• Proficient programming skills and solid understanding of software engineering practices, including testing, CI/CD, and version control.
• Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, break down complex tasks into small, incremental releases, and actively participate in trade-off and negotiation discussions.
• Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to quickly understand technical concepts and develop deep knowledge of the systems you support.
• Proven problem-solving and debugging skills, including the ability to identify root causes in unfamiliar codebases and recognize and resolve recurring issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members, partners, and stakeholders.
• Intermediate leadership skills with a track record of self-motivation, ownership, and a commitment to continuous learning and personal growth.
