Role Overview
- Collaboration with Research Team
- Identify texts and excerpts for translation
- Estimate translation timelines and efforts
- Incorporate feedback from Subject Matter Experts and Advisors
- Support the development of Factsheets on Gurus, key figures, and historical events
- Translate texts from the 1400s to the 1800s from Braj OR Persian into clear, accurate, and accessible English
- Ensure translations preserve linguistic nuance and poetic structure where relevant
- Flag ambiguous or contested passages and collaborate on interpretation
- Ensure adherence to project-wide translation standards, maintain consistency in terminology across texts and time periods
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in Braj, OR Persian
- Strong command of English with the ability to produce clear and readable prose
- Ability to read Gurmukhi
- Experience working with historical texts and manuscripts
- Familiarity with South Asian historical contexts
- Familiarity with Sikh history
