Assistant General Counsel, Consumer Protection – External Affairs

Role Overview

• Provide legal advice and serve as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters
• Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education
• Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party
• Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance and consumer protection issues
• Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators
• Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies
• Research federal and state legal questions
• Assist with general corporate matters
• Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance
• Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients

Requirements

• At least three years of experience in the practice of law
• Higher education experience preferred
• Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment
• Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC
