Amentum is seeking a Senior / Principal Ports and Maritime Engineer to join our UK team, supporting the delivery of critical infrastructure within the Defence sector.
This role offers a flexible hybrid working model, combining office-based, Glasgow/Edinburgh/Bristol/Reading, some remote, and occasional UK site work.
You will be part of our Ports and Maritime capability, working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver engineering solutions across civil, structural, geotechnical, seismic, and maritime disciplines.
This role focuses on collaboration and shared problem-solving, where you will contribute your expertise to support high-quality and sustainable project outcomes.
You will work closely with colleagues and clients to build strong relationships and support the continued growth of the capability.
You will also play an active role in supporting and developing early-career engineers, contributing to an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages learning and knowledge sharing.
You will be responsible for producing and reviewing high-quality technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with relevant standards, client requirements, and best practice, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and constructability.
Applying a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach, you will help resolve complex engineering challenges and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
You will also support the management of project scope, programme, budget, and resources, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, efficient, and effective solutions.
Requirements
Good, accredited MEng degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
Demonstrable experience in civil and structural design, with the ability to apply British Standards and Eurocodes effectively in practice
Proven experience in ports, maritime, or related heavy civil engineering sectors, with the ability to translate technical knowledge into solutions for complex, real-world challenges
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply and guide the use of engineering theory in practical and often complex environments
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute within multidisciplinary teams
Experience in being involved in technical delivery and supporting successful project outcomes across scope, programme, and budget
A proactive and organised approach, and contribute to overall project and team performance
A commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement, alongside experience in mentoring and supporting the development of others
Familiarity with industry guidance for maritime infrastructure and load application, such as PIANC and OCIMF (Desirable)
Experienced in structural dynamics concepts and their practical application (Desirable)
Awareness of, or experience in, the use of Information Management systems (Desirable)
Exposure of finite element structural analysis software, such as STAAD.Pro or SAP2000 (Desirable)
An understanding of geotechnical principles, with experience or exposure to software such as WALLAP and PLAXIS (Desirable)
Awareness of NEC3/4 ECC contracts and their application within project delivery environments (Desirable)
