Role Overview
Key Responsibilities
General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Leading on a varied caseload of complex family matters, including divorce, financial remedy (often involving high-value and multi-jurisdictional assets), private children law and pre/post-nuptial agreements.
- Effectively manage an individual caseload, and delegate to and provide supervision to more junior members of the team as required.
- Taking a lead role in developing and growing the Family offering in Cambridge, contributing to the strategic direction of the practice and enhancing the firm’s presence in the local market.
- Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performance across the team.
- Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment, particularly with colleagues in the Private Client, Trusts, Tax and Estates and sector teams.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to generate new work and retain existing clients, acting as a trusted adviser to high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Lead on marketing initiatives, networking, and thought leadership to raise the firm’s profile, particularly within the Cambridge market and across our core Charity, Education and Faith sectors.
- Contribute to strategic growth by identifying new markets, service lines, or opportunities, including developing relationships with intermediaries and other professional advisers.
- Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
- Continuing your professional development and staying updated with legal developments in the field.
- To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm’s standards, procedures and core values.
- To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Drive profitability and efficiency while maintaining quality of service.
Requirements
Essential
- The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working as a solicitor with Family law.
- Strong technical expertise across a broad range of family matters, with particular experience in high-value financial remedy cases and complex private children work.
- Experience of supervision and development of other team members is essential.
- Previous experience of pro-active business development and marketing; ability to demonstrate generation of new revenue streams and be able to promote the firm and cross-sell other specialisms internally and externally.
- Candidates should be well-organised, technically proficient and a leader.
- Have excellent communication skills, addressing any potentially difficult conversations promptly and with skill.
- Proven experience in independently managing a caseload, demonstrating strong organisational skills and good financial hygiene (e.g. accurate time recording, billing discipline, and cost awareness)
Desirable
- Experience in working with high-net-worth individuals.
- Existing connections or networks within the Cambridge or wider East Anglia market.
