Director of Complex Claims and Counsel

Role Overview

• Manage claims and litigation cases
• Proactively monitor and collaborate with outside defense counsel
• Serve as in-house counsel on risk management and claims matters
• Evaluate each claim with respect to liability, causation and damages
• Direct attorney-client privileged investigations
• Negotiate directly with claimants and attorneys on serious liability exposures
• Drive resolution of claims by formulating and implementing investigative plans
• Serves as a trusted advisor to internal clients
• Participate in attorney selection and re-evaluation process

Requirements

• 4-year undergraduate degree or equivalent related experience
• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and admission to at least one state bar
• 8 to 10 years medical professional liability management experience
• Strong negotiating skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to organize and communicate information both orally and in writing
• Initiative and independent responsibility handling
• Ability to deal with conflict in a non-confrontational manner
• Ability to handle sensitive situations and information maturely
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
