Deliver designs, specifications and work plans that meet or exceed established business and technical design requirements, approved architecture and technical standards, quality measures, service levels, and continuous improvement goals
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of service catalog items specific to infrastructure solutions design services including, but not limited to, service ownership, service definition, SLA negotiation, SLA performance and SLA reporting.
Provide "level 4" technical support and consulting services to Operations for critical sustainment issues.
Provide guidance and advice on leading practices, industry standards and conventions, and frameworks and methods
Participate in root cause analysis of high priority (P1 & P2) operational failures; incorporate learnings into solution designs to prevent future failures.
Support the Customer Technical Design Authority: Participate in Technical Assurance Review meetings – providing review feedback, recommendations, required actions, and approvals.
Ensure solution designs are compliant with target architectures and standards and meet stated functional and non-functional requirements
Build, review and maintain technical standards in conjunction with Operations and Enterprise Architecture.
Evaluate technical deviations from current standards, present technical deviation recommendations to stakeholders, and provide final approval for all technical deviations.
Research select and deploy the best applicable technology for systems development/maintenance and production Operations
Identify impacts to existing infrastructure capacity
Evaluate non-functional characteristics including performance, availability, scalability, resilience
Review environments for production and non-production (development, test, QA, training) and provide recommendations for on-going improvement and sustainability,
Work with Operations to ensure delivered solutions are supportable, serviceable and meet business requirements & SLA’s.
Ensure changes to existing services are made in a controlled manner: i.e. include impact assessment in consultation with the business and technical owners, regression testing of any impacted systems, and planned migration into production
As required, Install, configure, and troubleshoot infrastructure, applications and software.
Implement and document system administration procedures for Operations coverage and end users.
Determine all configuration procedures for development team.
Manage and maintain system configurations
Maintain configurations and optimize system designs.
Use and improve on system monitoring tools such as 3rd party commercial and custom built.
Design and architect new systems and support tools solutions.
Requirements
Minimum three (3) years of experience in Network support and solution design capacity in Enterprise environments
Undergraduate degree required in computer science, engineering, or related discipline with an information technology focus (preferred)
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others
High level of creativity and innovation in problem solving
High level of analytical ability to deal with complex problems
Responsible for solutions delivered by projects which can exceed 1 million dollars
Strong competency in the efficient and effective use of solution design supporting applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Visio
Relevant manufacturer technical certification in networking, such as JNCIA, JNCIP, CCNA, CCNP or similar
Technology areas of expertise:
Enterprise class Network systems and supporting hardware (physical and virtual), software and tools
Converged/ VoIP and data networks (ex. Cisco: Catalyst, ISRs, Call Managers, Utility; Nortel ERS, IP BCM, IP Enabled Meridian, CS1000)
Broad understanding of the solution characteristics and parameters needed to deliver voice, video and TCP/IP data with QOS, across wired and wireless networks in an industrial setting.
Switched networks (LAN and Data Centre), routed networks (i.e. OSPF, BGP) and WiFi in the LAN environment
Excellent networking and computer skills, routers, switches, firewalls, network address translation and VPN
Hypervisors and virtualization of networks
High Availability solutions such as clustering, load balancing, replication, etc.
Network optimization (LAN / WAN) and traffic management solutions
IT Service Continuity services
Equipment, Software, Component and Services Monitoring
