About this role
Role Overview
Inspects and repairs a range of small arms for safety and serviceability.
Ensures completion of all required weapon system modifications.
Maintains current knowledge of newly adopted weapons and assemblies.
Performs functional testing to verify compliance with repair specifications and safety standards.
Conducts livefire testing when required.
Uses testing devices, trigger weights, and precision gauges (e.g., headspace, breech bore) to verify tolerances.
Inspects incoming equipment to determine needed parts and whether repairs fall under field or sustainment-level maintenance.
Supports the Ordnance Officer/Ordnance Chief with weapons custody, issue, and receipt using proper custody receipts and accountability documents.
Transports Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E) on and off station as required.
Maintain Arms Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E) qualification requirements for security and transportation.
May be required to work overtime, shift work schedules and/or be on call.
Requirements
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Small Arms Repairer, equitable Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), or equitable civilian certification such as Advanced Gunsmith certification who are subject matter experts on all aspects for small arms maintenance and repair.
Maintain Arms Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E) qualification requirements for security and transportation.
Attains and maintains livefire qualifications for all weapon systems.
Maintains required QA and SO qualifications and certifications.
Obtain and maintain medical certification(s) to handle munitions (Arms, Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E).
Obtain and maintain certification(s) to handle Class 1-Hazardous Materials.
Obtain and maintain certification(s) for Quality Assurance and Safety Observer per the Navy Personnel Ammunition and Explosives Handling Qualification and Certification Program (OPNAVINST 8023.24 Series).
Obtain and maintain weapons “live fire” qualification on all weapon systems.
Obtain and maintain state driver license.
A Secret Security clearance with the US DOD is required at hire.
Attains and maintains qualification in the QUAL/CERT Program for handling Class 1 Hazardous Materials as Team Member, Team Leader, and Quality Assurance/Safety Observer.
