Provide a professional and courteous experience to patients, staff, and visitors by offering assistance, maintaining visibility, and creating a safe environment
Perform regular and continuous patrols of interior hospital spaces, including inpatient units, public areas, stairwells, and affiliated medical offices, to deter theft, vandalism, and unsafe behavior
Conduct exterior patrols of hospital property including parking lots, garages, and grounds, with increased visibility during shift changes to ensure staff and visitor safety
Respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, behavioral incidents, medical emergencies, and hazardous material events by assessing the situation and taking appropriate action in line with protocols
Assist with the transport and proper documentation of deceased patients to and from the hospital morgue and coordinate the release of remains to funeral home personnel
Enforce parking regulations, assist with traffic control, and provide motorist assistance to staff and visitors, including jump-starting vehicles or helping with flat tires
Escort employees and visitors upon request to ensure safe passage to and from vehicles or throughout the facility, especially during after-hours or in low-light conditions
Participate in conducting and monitoring fire drills, Code Green hazmat responses, and safety inspections of doors, lighting, ID badge checks, and other risk-related areas
Collect and secure lost and found items; assist in identifying and locating the rightful owners whenever possible and maintain proper documentation for all items
Provide one-on-one observation of psychiatric or behavioral health patients as requested; assist in the safe restraint of patients in collaboration with clinical staff when needed
Secure and inventory patient valuables and possessions, particularly for patients admitted under mental health holds, and ensure proper storage and retrieval upon discharge
Prepare detailed and timely written reports on incidents, alarms, thefts, safety concerns, and daily security activity using the department’s electronic reporting system
Requirements
Minimum Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Will accept 3 years of Security Officer experience in lieu of education requirement
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record if candidate will be driving a vehicle while working, or if not, must have a valid NYS ID Card
Must meet requirements of New York State Security Guard Licensing program and successfully pass within 3 months of hire.
Preferred: One year experience in a Security related field.
