Lead and develop a high-performing Data Governance team, setting clear goals, coaching performance, building capability (training, hiring, succession), and driving a culture of accountability, risk mindset, and operational rigor
Own execution of PII Discovery operations and governance, including data source onboarding, scan monitoring, issue triage/remediation coordination, and overall platform health and stability
Manage PII discovery policy and rules governance, including creation/maintenance of identifier rules, exception management, approvals, and documentation to ensure compliant and consistent application
Establish and report PII discovery performance insights, defining and improving KPIs/KRIs and delivering actionable, executive-ready metrics and summaries aligned to business outcomes
Support the Consumer Rights Program through controlled, audit-ready reporting, responding to data subject-related requests in partnership with Legal/Compliance/Operations and improving workflows for speed, accuracy, and traceability
Provide governance oversight for the Outbound Data Share program, ensuring requests are reviewed, approved, documented, renewed, and compliant with policy, privacy laws, and contractual obligations
Drive enterprise adoption through training, stewardship, stakeholder enablement, and Data Literacy oversight, providing execution support for Synchrony’s enterprise Data Literacy Program
Ensure strong governance, risk, and control alignment, maintaining documentation and evidence for audits/regulatory inquiries and coordinating issue remediation across 1st/2nd/3rd line stakeholders
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field and minimum 6+ years of relevant Data Management experience
Minimum 4+ years of experience with Data Management / Data Governance practices in banking or financial services
Minimum 2+ years of people leadership experience, including performance management, coaching, and team delivery oversight (direct and/or matrix leadership considered)
Knowledge of Data Privacy laws and regulations (CPRA, GDPR)
Broad understanding of banking, credit card, payments, collections, marketing, risk, and regulatory & compliance
Familiarity with Python, SQL, SAS, Tableau, Power BI, and modern data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
Experience using data governance and reporting tools such as: Microsoft Office 365, AWS or Big ID
Proficient in analyzing, correlating data, and reporting insights; ability to summarize and present business-pertinent facts for senior audiences
Intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
Strong relationship management and influencing skills to build enduring alliances across matrix organizations
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables concurrently in aggressive timeframes; ability to cope under time pressure
Experience partnering with diverse teams composed of staff and consultants across multiple locations and time zones
Demonstrated ability to drive operational maturity through process standardization, automation, documentation, and control enhancements
